With the announcement of iOS7 at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference and Apple’s push towards a  new “flat” design style, we wanted to updated the Composites app to reflect these changes.

iOS 7 is the seventh major release of the iOS mobile operating system, it was announced at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, and was released on September 18th. iOS7 is a huge change for Apple and a big evolution in terms of design. While the aesthetics is subjective, it’s hard to disagree that overall it is a pretty huge upgrade.

The most noticeable change was an overhaul of the user interface with new features including refined typography, new icons, translucency, layering, physics, and gyroscope-driven parallaxing. It was also time to say goodbye to those horrible skeuomorphic elements such as green felt in the Game Center, wood in the Newsstand, and leather in the Calendar, in favor of flatter graphic design.

Whats New in the Composites App

As well as some major improvements behind the scenes that will better allow us to add new features in the future, we have also made some changes to the style and look of the app.

One of the first things you will notice aside from the new icon and loading screens is we have done away with the main menu,  instead when the app launches it will take you to the latest composites news, the menu has been hidden away and can now be accessed by either swiping from the right or hitting the menu button in the top left corner. We have updated the Composites Directory for better syncing and improved the connection with the Composites Network and thanks to users feedback we have also added a QR code reader which might come in handy for composite events and shows.
